The Apex 1.6T OSFP-XD DR8 module carries eight 200 Gigabit PAM4 lanes over eight single mode fiber pairs, giving 1.6T on one port at 500m. It is the module that makes a 1.6T switch port usable without breaking it down into two or four smaller ports.
The pressure behind 1.6T is switch radix and front panel space. Once a switch ASIC reaches 51.2T, the way to use it is a smaller number of faster ports: 32 ports of 1.6T instead of 64 of 800G. Doubling the lane rate to 200G per lane is what allows that, and it changes the optics, the host interface and the thermal design of the module at the same time.
OSFP-XD is a deliberate mechanical departure from the 800G OSFP form factor: a longer body, a different connector and higher lane count, which is why it is a new design rather than a firmware upgrade. It is best treated as the next generation of the spine and AI fabric port, while 800G OSFP and QSFP-DD remain the volumes we ship and hold in stock. Tell us the switch platform, the port plan and the cable schedule and we confirm the module, the coding and the fiber type.

Gives the spine layer 1.6T ports so a 51.2T switch can be cabled with half the port count of an 800G design.
Carries the leaf to spine uplink at 1.6T where rack density or cable volume makes 800G uplinks impractical.
Provides the 1.6T building block for metro data centre interconnect once 1.6T router and transport ports are in service.
1.6T OSFP-XD modules are coded to the switch platform you name and tested on live ports before shipment. Because the form factor and the lane rate are both new, the practical checks are the host platform support, the front panel space, the fiber count available per port and the thermal budget at the port. 800G OSFP and QSFP-DD modules, MPO trunks and breakout assemblies remain available from the same line for the volumes that are shipping today.
No. The lane rate doubles from 100G to 200G per lane and the module uses the longer OSFP-XD body with a different connector, so it needs a platform that supports it. It is a new port design, not a firmware upgrade of an 800G port.
500m over single mode fiber, which suits spine and fabric runs inside a large campus or a multi building AI cluster. Longer coherent reaches at 1.6T are covered by separate DCO products.
No. 800G ports are still the volume option and can be used with breakout or with fewer, faster ports depending on the platform. 1.6T is the way to use the full switch capacity with the lowest port count.
A 1.6T DR8 port needs sixteen single mode strands at the module, so cable schedules built around 800G MPO trunks need to be recalculated. Send us the port count and we return a fiber and trunk plan.
APEX is a communication technology brand focused on optical transceivers, telecom synchronization products, and network infrastructure equipment. We provide products and engineering support for telecom operators, data centers, mobile networks, and enterprise customers worldwide.
APEX GROUP is headquartered in Hong Kong, with our core team and supply chain operations based in China. We ship to customers across Asia, the Middle East, Europe, Africa, and the Americas.
We are a brand owner with deep engineering partnerships. We control product design, specification, quality validation, and supply chain management. Our products are built to our specifications by qualified manufacturing partners, and we handle all testing, coding, and quality assurance before shipment.
Yes. We code transceivers to match the host platform requirements of major switch and router vendors including Cisco, Juniper, Arista, HPE, Huawei, Nokia, and others. Tell us your platform model and required OS version, and we will ship modules that are recognized natively by your equipment.
Datasheets, compatibility matrices, and S-parameter reports are available for all standard products. Contact our sales team or visit the product pages on our website to request documentation.
Provide us with your switch make, model, and OS version. We code the transceiver firmware accordingly before shipment. If you are testing for the first time, we recommend ordering a sample unit to validate compatibility in your specific environment before placing a volume order.
Switch vendors occasionally introduce transceiver whitelisting in new OS releases. We track major platform updates and can provide recoded firmware matching the new OS requirements. Contact technical support if your existing APEX modules stop being recognized after a switch upgrade.
Contact our sales team by email, WhatsApp, or WeChat with your part number and quantity. We will confirm pricing, lead time, and shipping options. For first-time customers, we typically recommend starting with a sample order to validate compatibility before scaling to production volumes.
We ship via DHL, FedEx, and UPS for express delivery, typically 3-7 business days to most destinations. For volume orders, we also offer air freight and sea freight options. We can ship on your courier account or ours, and we handle all export documentation.
Sample orders start from 1-2 units for evaluation. For production orders, MOQ varies by product type, typically 10-50 units for standard transceivers. Contact us for specific product MOQs.
We accept wire transfer (T/T) as our standard payment method. For established customers, we can offer net-term payment arrangements. Contact our sales team to discuss payment terms.
All APEX products come with a 3-year standard warranty against manufacturing defects. We offer advance replacement for defective units, shipping the replacement before you return the failed unit to minimize downtime. For full details, visit our After-Sales Service page.
Contact us by email, WhatsApp, or WeChat. Describe your issue with as much detail as possible, including switch model, OS version, transceiver part number, and the problem you are seeing. Our support engineers will respond within one business day.
Yes, we strongly encourage sample testing. Order 1-2 units of each model you plan to deploy. Test them in your switches with your fiber plant and traffic load. Once validated, we can proceed with production quantities.
