10G SFP+ DWDM Optical Transceiver Module

Product Overview

The Apex 10G SFP+ DWDM module carries a 10 Gigabit service on one dense wavelength division multiplexing channel of the C-band. Channels are spaced at 100GHz, close enough that dozens of 10G services share one fiber pair without touching the existing traffic, and each module is ordered on a fixed channel.

DWDM is used when CWDM channels are exhausted or the route is longer than a coarse grid can carry. The narrow spacing means more channels per fiber and the C-band sits inside the gain window of erbium doped fiber amplifiers, so 10G DWDM spans can be extended well past the module reach with an inline amplifier at 40km or 80km grades.

Typical use is metro and regional transport, long haul 10G over dark fiber, cable and utility backbones, and data centre interconnect between two sites that have to share one cable. We confirm the channel plan, the mux/demux hardware and the amplification before quoting, and supply the transceivers together with the passive parts and patch cords.

Applications

Metro and Regional 10G Transport

Puts each 10G service on its own dense channel so a single fiber pair carries the whole route instead of one service.

Long Haul 10G over Dark Fiber

Extends 10G reach beyond the module grade with an inline amplifier, which fits routes where a regenerator would cost more.

Cable, Utility and Data Centre Backbone

Adds 10G capacity between headends, substations or two data centres on the existing cable without new fiber.

Compatibility

10G DWDM modules are coded for the transport, routing or switch platform you name and tested on live ports before shipment. The channel plan matters more than the module vendor, so we ask for the existing channel list, the mux/demux part and whether amplifiers are in line before quoting, and match the wavelength, the grade and the patch cords to that plan.

Frequently Asked Questions

Which DWDM channel should I order for a 10G link?

Use the channel plan already running on the route and pick a free channel. Both ends must be on the same channel, and adding a 10G service on an existing amplified span normally only needs the two modules.

Should I use the 100GHz or the 50GHz grid?

100GHz spacing is the standard choice for 10G and shares plans with most installed mux hardware. 50GHz doubles the channel count on the same fiber but needs muxes built for the narrower grid, so we build those on request.

Do I need an APD receiver?

The APD receiver adds sensitivity for the 80km grade and for spans with high loss or several mux stages. On 40km and short amplified links the standard PIN version is the lower cost choice.

Can a 10G DWDM module be used with an EDFA?

Yes. The C-band channels sit inside the amplifier gain window, which is what allows spans beyond the module reach. Share the span loss and amplifier details and we check the budget before shipment.
