25G SFP28 CWDM Optical Transceiver Module

Product Overview

The Apex 25G SFP28 CWDM module places a 25 Gigabit service on one coarse wavelength division multiplexing channel, so several 25G links share a fiber pair through passive multiplexers. It covers the 18 channel ITU grid from 1271nm to 1611nm at 20nm spacing, with each module fixed to one channel.

25G CWDM is used where a route already carries other services and the new link has to fit an established plan, or where the fiber to a radio site, cabinet or customer is limited. Because it reuses existing fiber and passive mux hardware, the cost of adding a 25G channel is usually lower than building a new route, and the uncooled laser keeps module power and cost down.

Typical use is 5G fronthaul and mid haul where several sectors or sites share one cable, metro 25G transport, and campus links between equipment rooms. Transceivers are supplied together with the CWDM mux/demux, OADM modules and patch cords so the channel plan and connectors match at both ends.

Applications

5G Fronthaul and Mid Haul

Puts each site or sector on its own 25G channel so several radio links share the cable that reaches the area.

Metro 25G Transport

Adds 25G capacity to a route that already carries traffic, using free CWDM channels instead of new fiber.

Campus and Cabinet Links

Connects equipment rooms, cabinets and small sites at 25G where the fiber count between them is limited.

Compatibility

25G CWDM modules are coded for the switch, fronthaul or routing platform you name and tested on live ports before shipment. Fronthaul ports add timing and latency requirements to the link, so we confirm the host role, the line rate and the channel list in use on the route before the order is released, and match the mux hardware and patch cords to that plan.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I pick a CWDM channel for a 25G fronthaul link?

Use the channel plan already running on the route and take a free channel. Both ends of the link use the same channel number, and the mux/demux at each site has to pass that wavelength.

Is 25G CWDM suitable for fronthaul?

Yes. The module covers 25G Ethernet and the CPRI line rates used on fronthaul ports, and the uncooled design keeps power and heat down in street cabinets.

Do I need industrial temperature modules?

Outdoor cabinets, poles and unheated shelters usually need the industrial -40 to 85C version. Indoor equipment rooms are normally fine with the commercial grade.

Can you supply the CWDM muxes as well?

Yes. We quote transceivers, passive mux/demux or OADM modules and matching patch cords together so the channel plan and connector types line up.
